Skills Show 2015 in Birmingham gets its winners. The Goldsmiths’s Company Apprentices fetched it all, Gold, Silver and Bronze, for Fine Jewelry Making. The show attracts approximately 75,000 visitors with over 500 apprentices competing for different skill sets. The apprentices were given challenges to design different jewelry. 

All three Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded to Goldsmiths’ Company apprentices.The medals were given in the category of Fine Jewelry Making at the Skills Show 2015 at Birmingham’s NEC last week.

The Skills Show was attended by over 75,000 visitors that included about 500 apprentices competing in 64 different skills. Alex Wood, 20 years old, won gold and was under the supervision of Nathaneil Groves of Ian Read Settings Limited. Dominic Walmsley Jewlery’s apprentice 21 years old,Ben Kerridge fetched Silver and Andrew Buckingham’s apprentice 20 years old Abigail Buckingham bagged bronze.A task to create a pendant in the shape of an anchor, transferring 2D design to 3 D design was assigned to them.

All three Wood, Kerridge and Buckingham were tested for their abilities to saw , solder, finish and time management. They made an impressive artistic display in just 15 hours.

Nathaniel Groves says,”It is a matter of great delight when Alex made it for Gold. Alex Wood showed a high level of composure and determination”. The strong contestant for the international competition, will get immense support from the Goldsmith’s Center and their employees.

These include gold medal winner Alex Wood, Hugo Johnson, and others.They will  receive both additional technical skills training and guidance for World Skills Brazil in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
