According to BIRA, wet weather sinks the sales of the small retailers. British Independent Retailers Association divulges the end of the eighteen months time enjoyed in earning profits by the small shops in the last three months of 2015 due to the unexpected weather change.

BIRA (British Independent Retailers Association) reveals in the study the dramatic shift in the profits of the independent retailers due to the sudden change in the season. According to them, the profits that the small shops are earning since past eighteen months has seen a sudden descent in the last quarter of 2015, due to unseasonably warm and wet weather. Despite the fact of the varied local weather and financial conditions across the country, untimely warm and wet weather, falling prices, falling football, as well as the deeper discounting in sales and rising e-commerce trade during Christmas and Black Friday contributed to the decline of the profit of the independent retailers. The sales show the sizeable decline than that sale at the beginning of 2014. The fundamental shift that brought forth the, by and large, average Y-O-Y decline of 2.35% was the reverse from six out of ten small retailers seeing the hike in their sales and profit in earlier periods to six out of ten facing the dip in the crucial last quarter of 2015. As per the BIRA report, North-East enjoys the growth but the unpredicted season hits the North-West adversely. Further, the agency report showed a significant drop of 8.5% in the sales of the North-West retailers during the Christmas quarter. The company too stated that retailers are by nature optimistic, it’s in the bloodline, and this will endure them in good stead after a tepid and mushy Q4.
